Book Review: You Can Heal Your Life by Louise Hay

Hey Everyone and Happy Weekend! Hope everyone has had an enjoyable weekend so far. Excitement is in the air over here as my dog Bella is no longer in quarantine and has passed the 6 weeks since her heart worm treatment!

Let’s get to our book review!

About the book

The book is broken up into 4 parts.

The first part of the book is an introduction by Louise Hay and her philosophies and general beliefs.

The second part is going over the why did you pick up this book, some identification and straight into the mental work!

Part three dives into specific aspects of the work: relationships, work, success, prosperity, the body and “the list”.

Part four, Louise Hay tells her story and ties up the book nicely.

What you should know before reading the book

Before reading the book I have some recommendations:

In general like all self help books. Take notes! Flag pages. There are some great nuggets of information within each chapter. You think you’ll remember it, I know I did. But, alas I did not. So, I learned to keep a notebook beside me while reading any type of self help book. I am also a proponent for a physical book. Now this one I had as an ebook via iTunes. I found myself using the highlight function and writing in my notebook. I would have preferred a physical copy.

This book is interactive. Its best when presented with an exercise to do the exercise when you see it. Otherwise, you’ll keep reading through and spoiler alert! you find out the why behind the exercise and that ruins exercise.

What I liked about the book

I enjoyed the exercises and Louise Hay’s philosophies. The biggest take away I had was on manifestation. More than just a mind over matter technique, manifestation in the realm of Louise Hay is just stating what your life will be. If I want to be happy, then I have the ability of manifesting that. The reason why I am not happy now, is because I’ve made a choice conscious or not, to be unhappy. If i want that to change, then I tell myself I am happy and so it will be.

Her list of issues with the bodies and where they derived from was very interesting.

I loved that she ended each chapter with a meditation that you can use in your journey that recaptures the chapter message.

What I didn’t like about the book

There was a point where I wasn’t feeling the whole you can cure your own cancer. However, I can’t knock something that I haven’t tried either.

Overall

I give this 3 out of 5 Jelly Donuts. I thought it was good, I would read it again and see what else I would take away from it. I do not see it as a stand alone self-help guide, I would have to couple it with something else, like going to therapy or some other form that makes/forces me to make progress.

Where you can buy it

You can find it on iTunes, Audiobooks, Amazon Kindle and Amazon. Here is a link to Amazon:
