Mirror Mirror: The Self Image Issue

Hey all! Its been a second since I posted anything. I originally started working on the post after Fathers Day. Hope everyone had a good day. I celebrated the day by doing a tradition my father and I used to do on Sundays, get bagels and the newspaper. There’s this place Art’s Bagels & More and it has some of the best bagels going around. I decided to go there and woah was the line long. It was totally worth it.

The FIFA Women’s World Cup is on!

I wanted to share this amazing commercial.

I think it’s important to remember, if you have a dream, don’t let others hold you back, keep pursuing your dream.

On to the subject!

The Self Image Issue

My self image has been very warped. Over the years, it has improved significantly, but something from time to time I struggle with. I think Self Image is something all genders struggle with. The media is constantly putting out images of what we should and shouldn’t look like. How we should act and behave. Even disturbingly how to be the perfect girlfriend/boyfriend/spouse. There’s one video out there, maybe you have seen it.

I know this is supposed to be a satire but there are parts of the video that make me go… that makes sense… and yet I don’t want it to. Let me know what your thoughts on the video are in the comments below.

Ultimately, the person who is the judge of your self image is you. The only opinion that matters is yours. There are some helpful techniques that can make you feel better with your self image.

How to feel better about your Self Image
†††1. Mentally Treat Yourself Better†

The first way you can feel better about yourself and your image, is to start with your inner talk. You could be the most beautiful person in the world but your inner talk could make you blind with hatred and disgust. Treat yourself kindly. Talk to yourself like you would your best friend. If you wouldn’t tell or treat your best friend in a degrading way, why would you do it to yourself?

2. Physically Treat Yourself Better

You are what you eat and if you treat your body poorly, in no way is it going to help you feel better about yourself. Eat right, exercise, develop a hygienic and sleep routine! You only have one body and one you to go with it. Make the best of what you have, and let the you thats on the inside also be reflected on whats on the outside.

Recently I did do something cool. I learned how to do my makeup, actually have a professional show me the brushes and the lay of the land. Here are the results:

Now, after I just talked about Self Image, why would I be going all makeup on you all of sudden? I wanted to share that its also ok to make yourself want to look good for you. Part of the makeup experience above was done by this place called Authentic Beauty, mantra? You Shine Through. I think its worth the extra effort, for yourself, to be the best person you can be, inside and out.

If you have been reading my blog, you know that I love technology and have a couple of apps to recommend.

Sworkit https://sworkit.com A great workout app that allows you customize your own workouts for your own length of time. You can also choose prearranged workouts as well.

Hello Fresh I just started doing this a coupe of weeks ago and I love the meals I have been getting. They have been quick, easy and healthy. If you have been wanting to try out, you can use the following link and receive $40 off your first order! https://www.hellofresh.com?c=ASZELLER1&utm_source=raf-share&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=clipboard

3. Surround Yourself with Supporters

Life is hard enough as it is. Surround yourself with people who support you. Friends, family, find the ones that support your dreams, even the crazy ones, because you are worth it. (Sound familiar? https://onrecoveryroad.com/2019/02/11/you-are-worth-it/) Its not worth it to spend it with people who bring you down. The sad part, is if someone is bring you down, its usually because they have such low regard for themselves that they have to bring someone else down in order to feel better about themselves. Don’t be that person. Be the person that supports others in their dreams.

4. Do Something You Love

Find ways to fill up your own cup. It could be anything, whatever helps you recharge and have fun. Recently I joined a photography group, its been great. I get to enjoy my hobby, learn new techniques and share it with other people who enjoy the same thing. I found it via https://www.meetup.com. This site/app was introduced to me by a friend and you can search by age, location and activity. I am not saying go join a group, but find something outside of work, maybe its something like kickboxing, or painting or going for a walk or cooking, maybe just playing with your dog.
